R. Kelly Sings About His Life for 45 Minutes
R. Kelly has been under scrutiny in the wake of the release of his The Buffet album as his alleged history of having sexual relationships with underage girls continues to follow him. GQ recently did a lengthy profile on the embattled singer that included a lengthy Q+A and while the publication had him in front of a camera, they asked R. Kelly to tell his life story. The result was a 45-minute half spoken word, half song story from The R that covers his life as a child in Chicago up until now. Kelly is captivating throughout, using the camera to put on something of a one-man show. The video itself is almost too bizarre for words, so it’s best you watch for yourself.
In 2001, Kelly was indicted on 21 counts of making child pornography but was acquitted. Despite the allegations, Kelly’s career–especially in the 2000’s–is easily one of the most successful in R&B history. During his recent press run, the singer continued to deny that he is attracted to underage girls and admitted that he believes he has been treated unfairly because of the allegations. “I think, man, abso-effing-lutely I’ve been treated unfair,” he told GQ. “Yes. I’m not, you know, this innocent guy with a halo over his head. No, I love women. Do I like to sleep with underage girls? Absolutely not. I’ve said it a million times. But do I have people trying to destroy my career? Absolutely.”
