MLB Cano, Mariners agree on 10-year, $240 million deal
After a whirlwind day of activity, Robinson Cano is officially a Mariner.
The All-Star second baseman agreed to a 10-year deal worth $240 million on Friday, FOX Sports MLB Insider Jon Paul Morosi confirms.
Hours before the deal was agreed upon, talks broke down because Cano’s agent Jay-Z was seeking a 10-year, $260 million deal, a source told FOX Sports MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal.
The Mariners resumed talks with Cano’s representatives soon after, according to a source.
The Mariners initially thought they were set when they offered a nine-year deal worth $225 million for Cano, who batted .314 with 27 homers and 107 RBI last season. Jay-Z then upped the ante, requesting a 10-year deal, which upset Mariners brass.
